Holidays are a wonderful break from the usual routine, but for children, the change can be overwhelming.
Establishing a flexible holiday routine can bring a sense of predictability that helps your child feel secure, while still allowing you both to enjoy the season. Here’s how to get started.
1. Establish Daily Anchors
Choose two or three simple “anchor points” each day to provide structure.
These could include breakfast together, a morning walk, and a quiet afternoon activity.
These anchors give your child a sense of stability without feeling restrictive.
2. Incorporate Quiet Time
After lunch, set aside time for quiet activities like reading, coloring, or listening to an audiobook.
This gives your child a chance to unwind and offers you a few moments to recharge as well.
3. Allow Flexibility
Some days might require more structure, while others can be more relaxed.
Use visual timers or countdowns to make transitions smoother, especially if your child has difficulty moving from one activity to another.

Tip: Aim for a routine that includes a structured activity in the morning and one in the afternoon.
This rhythm provides security and gives you flexibility throughout the day.
